I read books at night, frequently, so I purchased this product so I wouldn't disturb my wife. This light source is simple in design: tiny LED lamps illuminate a thin piece of plastic (working similar to a fiberoptic lamp Lumisource LS-FO SPRAY Fiber Optic Spray). It is about the dimensions of a full sized book and the black handle which houses the battery/light source is somewhat bulky. A small button toggles the light intensity from low to dim to off.

USE

Place the item on the page that you want to read, push the button to the light intensity that you desire (allow your eyes to adjust to the darkness, which may take a minute or more), and flip the item to the other page to read. As you turn the page, you will need to take the item out, and place it back into the book.

In concept, this product is ideal. You have a light source that is limited to the pages that you are viewing. However, even on the highest intensity (let's call it dim and dimmer), the light is still somewhat low. What can you read with this item? Books that have high contrast paper (glossy pages are most ideal since the reflective proper of the paper allows for better view). Conventional novels are a bit more difficult to read. Magazines are impossible unless you read on your stomach with the magazine placed on the bed. Furthermore, pictures are difficult to see, at best.

DURABILITY

Like any screen on a laptop, I placed a SCREEN PROTECTOR on my lightwedge to prevent scratches. Any scratch with transmit uneven light (more than usual).

Given that LEDs have very little power requirements, I have had the same batteries in the unit for the past 3 years, and it is still running.

DESIGN RECOMMENDATIONS

More LED bulbs along the 'spine' of the handle would improve the light intensity.

A thinner, scratch resistant plastic with a lighter handle would be a marked improvement.

VERDICT

Knowing the limitations and tendency for scratches, it is an innovative product that still has good uses. You will need to try this product for yourself, before you can decide if it works for you.

I purchased the WD My Book 500mb external hard drive about a year ago with a 3 year warranty. The drive failed after about 4 months with constant clicking and I lost everything that was on this drive. I received a replacement drive quickly. The second drive lasted about 7 months and last week the drive started clicking again... once again I lost everything on the drive. I went on WD's web site and the replacement drive had a 90 day warranty and I am out of luck getting a replacement drive from this company. I am in the process of purchasing another drive. I do not recommend this drive simply because the Western Digital company obviously does not have faith in their own product, otherwise the 3 year warranty would have carried over to the replacement drive. I just got the electronic dictionary and I can already see its advantages over other models. First and foremost, the ring adapter drastically reduces your chances of losing it. In addition, it is nice and slim. It has a large number of words, often with multiple definitions. The converter function is also handy, as I teach Science (although it was bought primarily for the dictionary.) The display is easy to read and the keypad is not difficult to figure out. I expected that a book published by the company who developed the application would, to a great extent, be the definitive source of information. Personally I learned more from the Help resource in Excel than this book. In particular, most books on programming begin by describing the basic types/structures/fundamentals then moving into more and more detail all the while providing insightful and informative examples, some of which are built upon through out the text.

Now I have programmed in many different languages before and understand the relative similarities (after all, aside from linguistics/semantics most languages are fundamentally the same), yet there was no substantive explanation regarding running the minimalist examples that were given. Moreover, how about providing some worthwhile examples that really illustrate programming Excel and making it work for you.

All-in-all this text was VERY disappointing and the only reason for two stars is that I got the book for free. If it were not for this fact, I would have given in one star. For anyone out there interested in Excel programming, please steer clear of this text and I wish I could direct you to something worthwhile but this was my first so we are all out of luck. This little Guy is really Cute. (The photo doesn't do it any Justice.) However the keys are too small to use anything besides the stylus that came with it. It is great for storing numbers in but you can't use letters below the first line of the display and this makes it difficult to store E-mail and Snail Mail addresses. If you only E-mail and write people and don't call them you would be better off paying a little more for a better organizer. I tried this out for a while and its positives are: some protection from bumps and drops and it is better than some of the other silicone sleeves because it doesn't droop as bad on the bottom as others. However, while saying that it does droop and turning it on and off and using the wireless switch on the back can be a pain. The metal that holds it up to read like a stand broke through the silicone in places, which off balanced it and i found I didn't like it as well as holding it or laying it flat.
